Revista Colombiana de Matemáticas (RCM) is a joint publication of Sociedad Colombiana de Matemáticas and National University of Colombia (Bogotá). The Journal is published biannually both in hard copy and electronic format. It is an open access journal, meaning it is freely available on the internet to any interested reader with no restrictions in the use, distribution and reproduction of articles provided the original work is properly cited. In case of discrepancies between the printed version and the on-line version of an article, the printed version is considered the primary and original version.
Revista Colombiana de Matemáticas publishes original research papers in all areas of pure and applied mathematics. Very well written expository or review papers and new proofs of known results are also considered. Manuscripts must be written in English, and only in very exceptional cases could be submitted in Spanish. All papers are carefully refereed and the journal will make its best effort to have a decision on the publication of an article within five months from the date it is received. Revista Colombiana de Matemáticas is committed to high ethical standards in the process of evaluation of the papers submitted for publication. All persons involved in this process (the Authors, the Board of Editors and the Referees) agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior (no plagiarism, no libel etc.) The model of this process is that of a peer reviewed journal.
Each submission is initially discussed by the Associate Editors. If the paper meets the standards of the Journal, then one of the Editors is asked to carry our the editorial process of the paper and is in charge of finding referees to review the submission. If the Associate Editors determine that a submission does not meet the standards of the journal, then the authors will be notified and the paper may be rejected without additional reviews. The Editor who receives a submission must perform a preliminary revision to see whether or not the paper is worth to be sent to the referees. If not, this decision is communicated immediately to the authors. The Editors are committed to strive to meet the needs of readers and authors; constantly improve the journal; ensure the quality of the material they publish guaranteeing the freedom of expression and maintain the integrity of the academic record; preclude business needs from compromising intellectual standards; always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.
The Referees are chosen by the Editors worldwide and they must be experts in the particular subject of the submitted manuscript. The Editors ensure the confidentiality of the submitted manuscripts until they are published. They must not have a stake in the authors’ success and must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to any individual other than the Referees or other Editors of the Journal. Unpublished results that appear in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an Editor’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Final approval or rejection will be taken by the Executive Editor based on the report of the Referees in conference, if necessary, with other members of the Editorial Board. The final decision has no appeal.
New Editors should not overturn decisions to publish submissions made by the previous Editor unless serious problems are identified.
The Referees are bound to treat the manuscript received for peer reviewing as confidential and they are asked not to use the material contained in the submitted paper for their own benefit. Referees should not accept to referee a paper in which they have any conflict of interests resulting from relationships or connections with any of the authors. Referees are asked to try to write and send his/her report in less than three months (when papers are shorter than 20 pages) after receiving the manuscript but the Editors and the Authors are well aware of the fact that they cannot press too much to achieve this goal as refereeing is done entirely out of goodwill. In the report a Referee must give his/her opinion based only on the relevance, originality, clarity and correctness of the results of the submitted paper.

By submitting a paper to the RCM the Authors must assure that the submitted manuscript is their own and that it has neither been published previously nor is currently being consider for publication elsewhere. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must be given and publications that have been influential in the submitted paper must be cited. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the submitted paper.
If Authors have used their own previously published work (or work that is currently under review) as the basis for a submitted manuscript, they are required to cite the previous work and indicate how their submitted manuscript offers novel contributions beyond those of the previous work. Submitted manuscripts that are found to include citations whose primary purpose is to increase the number of citations to a given author, or to articles published in a particular journal must be avoided by the authors because this is a cause for rejecting the paper.
Submissions should no exceed 25 pages in print except in exceptional cases. Each contribution should be accompanied of a short abstract without mathematical symbols, a list of keywords, a subject code classification in accordance with current AMS procedure and a note indicating the author’s affiliation. In any case, once the paper is accepted for publication, the Journal will ask the Authors for the source file of a final version of the paper. The Authors must prepare the manuscript using Latex and the style of the journal. A self-explanatory example of how to use the style files can be found in:
The Authors must send the corresponding source files of the accepted version of the paper to the Managing Editor or his/her Assistant.
Galley proofs of the paper will be sent to the corresponding Author for corrections after the paper is accepted for publication. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors. Authors are advised to check their proofs very carefully before returning them to the Editors. When an Author discovers a significant error in his/her published work, he/she has the obligation to notify the Journal and either retract or correct the paper.
