The International Conference AMDS 2014 will be held at Salón Roble Amarillo of Hotel Sonesta at Barranquilla, from October 5 to October 11.

The currency of Colombia is Peso, which is abbreviated as COP. One can check the exchange rate of the Colombian peso in Google by entering the query "USD to COP" or "EUR to COP".
Official Hotel
The logistics of the Conference are carried by Intelectual.co (logistica@intelectual.co). They have reached an agreement with Hotel Sonesta, Hotel American Golf and Hotel Virrey Inn, in Barranquilla to offer reduced fares to the participants of the AMDS2014. We recommend participants to stay at one of those hotel. Room rates per night (includes breakfast, hotel taxes and insurance) are as follow:

Transportation
Participants staying at the American Golf or the Virrey Inn hotels can take a taxi ( < 10,000 COP - < 15 minutes ride) or a bus ( < 2,000 COP - < 25 minutes ride) to get to Hotel Sonesta (AMDS2014 venue). Fares and times for a ride back are the same. Important: Never take a taxi ride before agreeing on the fare.
The location of the three hotels, Sonesta, American Golf and Virrey Inn, are well known in Barranquilla, particularly to taxi drivers. A taxi ride from the airport in Barranquilla to any of these hotels should not be more than 30,000 COP. A taxi ride from the bus terminal in Barranquilla to any of the three hotels should not be more than 20,000 COP. At the airport and at the but terminal, tickets with the taxi fare can be obtained near the taxi stop. Do not take a taxi without this ticket. Discard the option of getting to your hotel by bus if you are new to Barranquilla.
Upon request, Intelectual.co, through a third-party shuttle service, can provide transportation from and to the airport or the bus terminal. The cost per person per ride is to be defined, it depends on the amount of people interested in using the service. In any case, this service is cheaper than a regular taxi. People requesting the shuttle service will be informed about the costs via email.
Social Event
Dinner
A Special Dinner, on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Juan José Morales-Ruiz, will be held on Tuesday October 7 at Hotel Sonesta from 7:00 pm. The dinner includes appetizer and entree, dessert, and wine. There are several options, including vegetarian. The cost depends on the number of people joining us, and it will be informed via email to the ones interested.
Wednesday Oct. 8 trip
Trip to Playa Cristal in Tayrona National Park near Santa Marta on Wednesday October 8. The meeting point is the entrance to Hotel Sonesta at 7:00 am. We will go by bus to Neguanje, a beach near Santa Marta, and from there we will reach Playa Cristal by small boat. The tour fare includes transportation, the entrance fee to Tayrona National Park, a lunch, drinks and a diving activity. We will return to Barranquilla in the afternoon. The cost depends on the number of people joining us, and it will be informed via email to the ones interested.
Saturday Oct. 11 trip
Trip to Cartagena de Indias on Saturday October 11. The meeting point is the entrance to Hotel Sonesta at 7:00 am. We will go by bus to the Old City, and from there to Rosario Island by boat. After lunch, we go back to the Cartagena for a visit to Castillo de San Felipe, the Old City and Bocagrande. The tour fare includes transportation, a lunch and drinks. We will return to Barranquilla in the afternoon. The cost depends on the number of people joining us, and it will be informed via email to the ones interested.
Sunday Oct. 12 tour
Tour around Barranquilla on Sunday October 12. The meeting point is the entrance to the Hotel Sonesta at 7:00 am. We will go by bus to Barrio Las Flores and from there by small train to Bocas de Ceniza. Upon our return to Barrio La Flores we have lunch, and then we go through different places of Barranquilla, including Museo del Caribe. The tour fare includes transportation, a lunch and drinks. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon. The cost depends on the number of people joining us, and it will be informed via email to the ones interested.
